Collaboration is how we’ve always done things at Edcon Steel. From our beginning more than 50 years ago, we have built many partnerships and collaborations along the way.
Simon Goldacre, from Urban Design Systems, creates amazing laser cut concepts for things like screen designs, sculptures and garden elements.
He’s been an Edcon customer for more than 20 years and we’re always blown away by the designs he creates with the steel and metal we supply.
When we came together to work on a project for the Yarning Circle at St Dominic’s, it was a collaboration with a spectacular result. As Simon explains:
“Edcon is very good at what they do. It’s as simple as that. For the Yarning Circle project, I was tendered to make the roof panels and Edcon was on board to provide the structure.
We worked together in close communication to ensure my component – the roof panels – would fit in with their structure to realise the architect’s vision. They’re a good team to work with and they’re very effective at what they do.”
For our team, the collaboration gave us the opportunity to be part of something that created a structure that will be used by hundreds of school students every day. We’re really proud of the end result and the partnership that made it happen.
Our approach for any project – large or small – is to view it as a collaboration.
We aren’t just fabricating steel in a vacuum!
“There’s always an element of collaboration,” says Hugh Edmunds, Edcon Steel Managing Director.
“It’s not very often that you can do a job as involved as a steel structure without talking to your clients about their requirements in more detail.”
“The collaboration with Simon from Urban Design Systems was quite unique and everyone involved was thrilled with the outcome. ”
“It’s really exciting for us when we get to work with someone as talented as Simon is to bring a vision to life.”
As a family business we value relationships.
Simon has been coming to us for years. And he knew that we were the team to get the job done.
“When separate fabrication parties are creating separate elements that need to come together seamlessly on-site, communication throughout the project is the key,” explains Simon. “Otherwise very expensive problems and delays occur. Working closely together with the very accommodating Edcon, we were able to ensure that a stunning joint-venture project was delivered on time and beyond expectations.”
We always keep the communication lines open so our partners – and our customers – know what to expect and when to expect it.
