Each of our Edcon Steel teams has a wealth of experience, unique specialties and a commitment to helping our customers.
Our vast knowledge of steel and metal fabrication, combined with our workforce’s longevity, is what makes Edcon truly special.
Because we’re proud of our teams, we want you to get to know them.
So, let’s meet some of the team at Edcon Steel Bathurst.
Tom is an Assistant Manager with Edcon’s Bathurst branch, so he’s one smooth operator.
The job involves helping to keep everything on track, looking after customers, ensuring paperwork is up to date – and stepping in when the manager is away.
“I’ve been around metal most of my life,” says Tom.
“My dad’s a fitter, welder and engineer, and we used to go to the metal shops together.”
Those regular visits led to an office role with another steel supplier: “I wanted to be an accountant, believe it or not, but I realised I was looking for something more hands-on,” Tom explains.
“I’ve since done warehouse and logistics training, and now at Edcon, I get the variety that I really enjoy.
It’s a good atmosphere here at Edcon, and I like that it’s a family-run business. The staff all get along, and it’s easy to enjoy work when you have that sort of atmosphere. We have a laugh with the customers too, and you get to know the regulars pretty well.”
With a background in management, sales and customer service, Ken brings a wealth of experience to the team at Edcon Steel Bathurst.
“Having been in a customer service role in the industry for many years, I really pride myself on being prompt and efficient with everything I do,” Ken explains.
“So whether that’s organising the delivery manifests, sales enquiries and quotes, or customer service, I don’t like to sit on stuff… I like to get it done.”
Since moving to Bathurst a few years ago, Ken appreciates how special a town it is, as well as the people.
“Bathurst is just a really great place and the people I work with and the customers are all really great. We get along well and really enjoy what we do here.”
Grant is a full-time store person and a valued member of our team. After a decade served in the Australian Defence Force, Grant took a well-deserved break before joining the team at Edcon.
“I’ve been with Edcon Steel for a while now and I just love it,” he says.
“My role involves restocking products, serving customers, cutting steel, unloading and loading trucks, so it’s very active, which I love.
I love the variety of work and that every day is different.”
When asked what he thinks makes Edcon Steel a favourite amongst customers, Grant acknowledges the value that Edcon Steel places on service.
“I think the customer service is what sets us apart. And that we actually have the stock!”
When Callum decided to leave the concreting industry and go to university, he needed a part-time job that would allow him to be active and put his skills to good use. And we’re glad he found Edcon Steel.
“I’ve been with Edcon Steel for around six months now and I really love it,” Callum explains.
“As a storeman, I take care of re-stocking our products, cutting steel, working on job cards for our customers and loading the trucks that go out for delivery.
Because I work a three-day rotation, I always try and do a bit extra to help out the other guys in the store.
Edcon just has a really great culture where everyone gets along well. It’s a great place to have a laugh while you get your work done.
It’s the people who work here that make Edcon Steel different.”
